Sankichi is a traditional, and probably the oldest, oden restaurant of Sendai that was founded
in the year 1949 and has been on the business for 60 years. It's currently at the second and
third generation of owners (working together).
Sankichi is a restaurant that has a special attention to the taste of it's dishes, so that for
these 60 years the taste of it's 28 different ingredients' oden menu hasn't changed. Besides the
oden menu it also offers options of sashimi, cooked dishes and picles. Also, from June 2009 a new
addition to the menu has been made with the unusual and healthy Aburafu-don.
A word from the third generation Tamura-san:
Sendai's good point:
・It's a beautiful town with abundance of cooking ingredients.
To the foreigners
・Please come eat Sankichi's delicious, healthy and well-balanced dishes.

Sankichi is located passing the "akedo" street coming from the Mitsukoshi building and taking
the first left. It's very easy to go by bike (you can park it at the jozenji-doori avenue
sidewalk) and the restaurant is easy to find.
About the shop, it has a great atmosphere and being able to chat with the kind and interesting
staff (the person who thought about the octopus with the headband has to be interesting, right?),
makes you want to seat at the counter. Also, the owner and his son try to ask some simple questions
(like what's your name) in english, which I think is very kind. Besides they are used to receiving
foreigners that japanese costumers bring in, but foreigners that don't speak japanese coming alone
is not so common given the fact that they can't understand the menu.
About the food, after eating Sankichi's oden you understand why the store has been running for 60
years now. All the different kinds from the oden menu that I've tried were very juicy and tasted
very good. From the ones I ate the radish and the cabbage roll were specially delicious. I've
also tried the Aburafu-don, a new unusual dish you can't eat in any other place in Sendai. It
is like a Oyako-don (chicken and egg bowl), but instead of the chicken meat you have aburafu.
I don't know what is the aburafu, but it was soft and felt like fat (by the name it must be some
kind of fat), but it was very good.
If you want to try a delicious traditional japanese food in an enjoyable place or try the new
unusual Aburafu-don, then Sankichi is definetely the answer.
