Zuihoden is the mausoleum where the founder and first lord of Sendai, Date Masamune is buried.
It has 4 main buildings, the Zuihoden itself, that is where Data Masamune is, the Kansenden
where Date Tadamune (the second lord) is, the Zennoden where Date Tsunamune (the third lord) is,
and the Zuihoden museum. As this is a main place for sightseeing in Sendai and also a national
treasure, almost every sign or explanation plate has a small english translation and you can also
get an english panflet at the ticket office.
As Date Masamune was/is a famous daimyo (feudal lord) throughout the whole country, I think it is
interesting for people who like Japan's history and things related to samurais (including me). If
not for that it's a nice opportunity to see some buildings with nicely detailed engraves and a
colorful design you won't see so often in japanese old buildings.
To get there from the Sendai station you can get on the Loople Sendai bus or go by bike (about 20 minutes).
